The IOUG-A Round Table Home Page

Until June of 1999, the IOUG-A Round Table home page was used as the access point to the listservs that were created after the IOUG-A '98 & '99 conferences. At those conferences, a number of round table forums were held to discuss topics chosen by the attendees. As a benefit to the attendees, we created these listservs to facilitate a continuing dialog.  Since then, we have created Discussion Forums on the IOUG-A home page that parallel the topics found here and substantially add to the features and options you have available.  At that time, an e-mail was sent to all current subscribers and a similar one was sent to all of the Round Table attendees from IOUG-A '99 detailing the change.  That e-mail has been appended below.   Please take a minute to read through it.  Then head on to the IOUG-A home page by clicking here.

Thanks for stopping by.  I'll see you on the Discussion Forums.

Dear Round Table listserv subscriber:

The IOUG-A has created a number of Discussion Forums on their web page in order to facilitate continuing discussion of any issues related to Oracle Corporation, its products, and any third party products and solutions that work with Oracle. These Discussion Forums provide all of the functionality of our Round Table listservs, plus a number of other key benefits:

Current discussion forum topics include:

In order to serve you better, the IOUG-A has created parallel Discussion Forums for each of the Round Table topics hosted by this listserv. We welcome you to join us as we migrate the listserv topics over to the new Discussion Forum server. Stop by, take a look, and let us know what you think. We hope that you agree that this is an improvement, and will join us as we continue to debate "the Oracle condition." Our intention is to migrate all of the listserv functions to the IOUG-A's production servers by the end of June.

Warmest regards,

Peter Koletzke                                     Matthew F. Reagan

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE IOUG-A DISCUSSION FORUMS

Q: How do I access the IOUG-A online forums?

A: Visitors to the IOUG-A web site can participate in discussion forums and subscribe to the various forums and threads. To do so, please follow the instructions below.

From the IOUG-A home page (http://www.ioug.org), select Discussion Forums. One of two things will happen.

1. A message will appear asking if you are "your name." If so, click "yes" and you will be logged into the discussion forums.

2. The computer will go directly to the discussion forums page without logging in. A screen will be displayed showing the active threads from the last 30 days.

Click "Logout/in" and the user login dialog box will appear.

Enter your username and password into the fields provided and click OK to go to the discussion forums. If you are not a registered user, click "Registration Form" and the user registration dialog box will appear.

Enter the requested information and click OK. By completing this process, your user profile will have been created. You will now be able to participate in and customize the discussion forums as described below.

Q: Can I set up the discussion forum so that it only shows me the topic forums I’m interested in, instead of all the topic forums?

A: To have the forums you are interested in displayed:

1. Click the Options button at the top of the main discussion forum page.

2. Click the checkbox(es) beside the forums you want to see in the main discussion forum page and click OK.

3. The forums you selected now appear in the main discussion forum page.

It is within Options that you can further customize your interface with the discussion groups. The settings you can change include:

- Selecting the forums that will be displayed on your browser

- Global settings

- Changing your e-mail address for subscribing to forums/threads

Q: How do I subscribe to forums and threads?

A: Subscribing to a forum or thread means that you will receive e-mail notification each time a new posting is made in that area.

Forum titles are listed in bold type with a yellow background. Clicking on the arrow at the beginning of a line toggles between displaying or hiding the individual threads of that forum. Clicking the tiny checkbox to the left of the forum or thread title lets you subscribe/unsubscribe to that forum or thread. A red dot in the checkbox means you are subscribed.

Q: If I cannot find my password for the discussion forum, whom do I contact?

A: Send an e-mail to iouga@ioug.org and include your name and company. A member of the IOUG-A Headquarters staff will respond to your request.
