In this demonstration, I will build a corporate portal from scratch using Oracle Portal 3.0.9.  I will create tabbed pages, content areas, folders, forms, reports, calendars, and tables for these components.  As time permits, I will build other components as requested.

Oracle on Windows NT - Tips and Tricks, Jason Prigge, Unisys Corporation, 10:45 AM
Windows NT is fast becoming a viable solution to host mission critical databases and applications.  This paper describes many solutions we have implemented at Unisys to help make supporting a large number of Oracle databases on Windows NT manageable.

Oracle9i Data Warehousing Features Review, Robert F. Edwards, Dulcian, Inc., 10:45 AM
Oracle9i Server presents the latest move by Oracle in establishing a data warehouse platform for supporting e-business intelligence applications.  This new version release of Oracle Server lays the foundation for a "Data Warehouse Platform" that adds integrated OLAP services, data mining, an ETL infrastructure, and additional analytical SQL functions to the relational database.  The new Oracle Warehouse Builder 3i, with its new mapping architecture and enhancements, will also be reviewed.
Erwin Modeling Suite 4.0 Release, Lenora Spencer, Computer Associates, 1:00 PM

BAM - Oracle 8i kicks Performance Tuning up a notch with STATSPACK, John Brady Innovative Consulting, 1:00 PM
As the demand on an Oracle8i database continues to grow, so does the demand for a highly tuned Oracle8i database.  Oracle kicks performance tuning up a notch in Oracle8i with the introduction of a new tuning utility STATSPACK.  STATSPACk will give DBA's the ability to capture, report and store the statistical information to be reported on and analyzed immediately or it can be reviewed later.  This presentation will highlight the benefits of STATSPACK, review how to install STATSPACK and hot to use STATSPACK to get the most out of the STATSPACK utility for your organization.

Paradigm Shift for DBAs, Marlene Theriault, 2:15 PM
There are many precepts that we, as DBAs, folow because we found long ago that they worked for us.  However, with the newest technology, approaches that we are used to using may no longer be valid and we may need to learn to embrace new paradigms to remain effective DBAs.  This presentation will explore some of the areas where our thinking may need to change and overview some of the latest database administration approaches.

The State Transition Engine, Robert F. Edwards, Dulcian, Inc., 2:15 PM
This presentation will explore application development using a business rules approach to control the processing of data.  As opposed to executing a stream of hard-coded programs residing on the operating system, the State Transition approach discussed here moves all of the code, business rules and decision-making logic into the database, along with the data.  The base language is Oracle's PL/SQL, and the executable code takes the form of stored procedures and functions, which can be quickly and easily debugged and recompiled.

Ask Oracle Tools/DBA Expert Panel, moderated by Matt Reagan, Centocor, Inc., 3:30 PM
Bring your questions, concerns, thoughts and stories.  This is your opportunity to ask the questions you don't dare ask at the office, and come away with answers, directions, and approaches you can take to the database administration and Oracle product issues that you need to handle.  Novices and experts are all welcome.
